KAREN TANAKA
Born in Washington, D.C. (USA), she began her piano training at the age of 4. She is a prizewinner of several international competitions and has performed as a soloist with the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. After studying in New York and Freiburg, she has built an impressive career as a chamber musician. She has given concerts with Anne-Sophie Mutter, soloists of the Vienna Philharmonic, the Dresden State Orchestra, the Munich Philharmonic, and the Hessischer Rundfunk Orchestra in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, the USA, Japan, and Lebanon. Her diverse experiences also led to a collaboration in an opera production under Christian Thielemann at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden. In 2013, in Wagner’s anniversary year, she was invited to Bayreuth as a solo répétiteur for the production of Der komplette Ring an einem Abend. Concert recordings took place for SWR, HR, and ORF. As a pianist and educator, she is active in various masterclasses and festivals in Switzerland, Germany, the USA, and Luxembourg. Since 2009 she has been a lecturer for continuo and chamber music at Dr. Hoch’s Konservatorium – Musikakademie in Frankfurt/Main, and since 2022 she has been active as a piano teacher at the music school in Bad Nauheim.
